Abstract

Malnutrition commonly affects all the groups in a community. Pregnant women, nursing mothers, infants and young children are particularly vulnerable to the effects of malnutrition. Under-nutrition can cause damaging effects during pregnancy, increase the risk of morbidity and early death. A malnourished girl will become a malnourished mother and give birth to a malnourished child, thus contributing to the intergenerational cycle of malnutrition. Thus it stunt’s the new life from its normal growth, brain development and also weakens the immune system. Poverty, education, employment/ income generation, health, sanitation and infrastructure are interlinked with each other; development of all the indicators together can contribute to human development. Targets can be achieved only when the government and the community will work hand-in-hand. Considering all the factors an intervention model has been designed, whose major purpose is to; reduce poverty of the inhabitants of Tripura, by creating opportunities to generate income and also to lower the frequency of malnutrition among the inhabitants of this place. This developed model which has been proposed will be very effective for sustainable nutritional gain mainly towards the would-be mothers, lactating mothers, infants and below 5 children just through involvement in the process, which is unique in nature. The intervention and steady functioning of the government, community and NGOs will play a crucial role in transfiguring this project.
