Abstract

The current study was designed to evaluate local anaesthetic activity of the extract of Hygrophila auriculata using surface anaesthesia and infiltration anaesthesia and to find out Na+ channel blocking activity for the same. Hygrophila auriculata was extracted by Soxhlet apparatus. The extract was tested for surface anaesthesia and infiltration anaesthesia activities in rabbits and rats. The results were compared with normal saline solution and xylocaine standard marketed drug. From this study it is evident that the extract of Hygrophila auriculata is comparable to xylocaine in its surface and infiltration anesthetic property. It is proved as potent local anesthetics. A potential candidate as Na+ channel blocker which can prevent angiogenesis, can be used as Anti-angiogenic drug.
