Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare the patterns of Dermatoglyphics in DM-II patients and controls from Western Maharashtra. A total of 400 (Males-200, Females-200) bilateral rolled finger and palm prints were analysed and compared to a control population from western Maharashtra. The analysis revealed that there is a statistically significant difference in the occurrence of digital and palmar patterns between diabetic patients (both sexes) and controls.Diabetic female finger tips have a significantly increased whorl pattern (p<0.01). Palmar pattern frequency is significantly lower in diabetic males in the right Th/I1 area (p<0.05), hypothenar area (p<0.01) and left hypo thenar area (p<0.0).
